Capacity building trainings:
As requirement to build capacity of local community members, improving their livelihoods and creating self-employment and sustainable project operations, a series of trainings were organized in native seed collection and monitoring, native tree seed handling, propagation and nursery management, native tree seedlings marketing and sales management and restoration plot establishment and management and others like Geographical information system(GIS) mapping and delineation of seed collection areas for seed collecting and monitoring team, yet to be conducted.
The trainings were conducted by trainers from Tooro Botanical Gardens (TBG), National Forestry Authority-National Tree seed centre (NFA), experts from the BGCI network and Brackenhusrt Botanic Gardens-Kenya.
The training objectives included imparting skills to seed collectors and monitors, nursery bed assistants and restoration plot managers in the following areas; seed collection and monitoring, native seed handling, propagation and nursery management, restoration plot establishment and management, Records and book keeping, Sales and Marketing strategies of native tree seedlings.
104 local community members were trained by the project, 40 nursery assistants (55% females, 45% males), 60 seed collectors (38% female,62% male),4 restoration plot managers (50% male, 50% female)
