In 2008 Tooro Botanical Gardens in collaboration with PROTOS, UNEP and MWE started a pilot of the above project in the Mpanga Catchment.  Tooro Botanical Gardens played a pivotal role in mobilizing communities for nursery bed establishment and management and tree planting in the Mpanga catchment (river bank protection) and restoration of selected sites in the upper, middle and lower catchment. Although the project officially closed, TBG has continued to implement the project activities in the area.
